Dental Cleanings With Dr. Blacher

Keep Your Smile Healthy

If you haven’t been to a dentist in Lombard for a cleaning in a while, there’s no time like the present to make a change. Regular dental cleanings are the best way to keep your mouth in great shape and ensure that you’re free of complications like cavities and gingivitis (gum disease).

To get started, schedule a consultation with Dr. Blacher today!

Understanding the Dental Cleaning Process

Dental cleanings are usually done by a dental hygienist. The process begins with a quick look at your mouth, to identify any potential issues like damaged teeth or inflamed gums that could interfere with the dental cleaning process. If such an issue is found, your hygienist may consult with Dr. Blacher before continuing.

A special scaler will be used to remove all of the tartar and plaque from around your gums. This helps prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and keeps your teeth bright and healthy. This usually takes between 5-15 minutes, depending on when you last saw the dentist and your level of dental hygiene.  A high-powered toothbrush and a gritty, high-fluoride toothpaste will be used to polish and clean your teeth to remove any remaining plaque or bacteria and ensure your teeth are bright and shiny. Next, your hygienist will floss between your teeth to remove any remaining food particles, plaque, and other such material from your mouth.

Once your cleaning is complete, your hygienist will discuss any oral health issues with Dr. Blacher, who will then conduct an oral exam to look for cavities, tooth decay, and other such problems. X-rays may be taken, if they’re deemed necessary.

If your mouth is healthy, you’ll be sent home, and you’ll come back in six months for another check-up. However, if Dr. Blacher notices an issue like a cavity, you’ll schedule a follow-up appointment to treat the issue.

Benefits of Regular Dental Cleanings

By coming to our office for regular cleanings twice a year, you’ll be able to:

  • Catch cavities, gum disease, and oral health issues early – When you come in for a consultation every six months, we can catch potential issues like decayed teeth and gingivitis before they become more serious. This ensures you can take the proper steps to restore your oral health, and avoid further complications.
  • Save time and money – Dental cleanings and oral exams are usually free if you have dental insurance, and are inexpensive even if you pay out-of-pocket. By getting a dental cleaning, you can actually save money, because you may be able to avoid paying for fillings, deep cleanings for gum disease, and other such costly procedures.
  • Enjoy a brighter smile – At your dental cleaning, your hygienist can remove plaque and tartar that can’t be removed by brushing and flossing alone, which ensure a brighter and more beautiful smile. You’ll leave feeling refreshed and proud of your healthy smile.
